The biggest communication problem many of us have is that we do not listen to understand but we listen to reply.
Counterproductive isn’t it? We are in such a hurry these days that we almost listen with one foot tapping. Heaven forbid if it is a drawn out story.
In our haste to add our two cents worth, we might misunderstand the message and sometimes we can offend our partner by silently implying what they are saying isn’t as important or interesting as what we want to impart. How many times do we come away from a “conversation” to realize all we talked about was ourselves? Did we ask and listen to how they were? Did we notice hidden emotions that are revealed by voice, body language and in the eyes?
Slow down, take a breath and listen. Listen to understand.
Books by Lin
This novel is quite psychological and needed a lot of research into the effects of trauma, isolation and self-sufficiency. It was challenging to write and remains one of my favourites.
Strength of an Eagle
Strength of an Eagle was the first suspense novel that I created. Many of my readers are enthralled by the grit and determinations of the principal character, Maya.
Half-Truths Total Lies
I was fortunate enough to spend more than thirty years teaching in rural schools. Many people are drawn to the peace, quiet and anonymity afforded by rural areas.
Different environments with horrific scams that people get caught up in and a desperation for money, and you have the seeds for this suspense thriller!
